PR Campaign: Baltic Container Terminal

Description of the project:

GGC from the ground developed rules for the internal and external communication, negotiated with trade unionists, created of a network external contacts and advised

the managing board during the restructuring. GGC started activities at the moment of a danger of a strike in BCT (strike referendum: 89% of the crew voted to strike). The gaining support of internal and external environment significantly contributed to the project.

 

The challenge it represented:

Gaining the favour of the external environment in order to achieve a smooth change – creating a feeling of need for changes. Executing the reorganization. Decreasing dissatisfaction among the crew and the trade unionists – minimizing the risk of strikes.

 

The Solution:

  • Developing tools for external and internal impact:

“  Actions towards the Marshal of Voivodship (“Report on the state of the maritime economy”)

“  Activities with authorities of Gdansk and Gdynia Cities

“  “List of allies” – The boards of Ports, shipbuilding environment, the community gathered around the Church of the People of the Sea

  • Negotiations with the trade unions
  • Preparing BCT to the reorganization including reduction of staff
  • Creating a stable, well-motivated team
  • Introducing rules for internal communication – effective tools

 

The Results:

  • Building an awareness of the need to change and gaining support for changes among employees, local authorities, public opinion, etc.
  • Eliminating threats of strike within BCT,
  • Increase of confidence and support for action by the board
  • Minimizing the negative effects of reorganization
  • Developing of a common (Management and staff) responsibility for the company
